Prof. Katerina Zakaria hosts a short film screening to accompany her “Greek Cinema” course. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the director and screenwriter, both of whom are inaugural LAGFE Student Fellows of the School of Film at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece, which is sponsored by OISS. Synopsis: A coming of age story about two sisters who lead their lives in different directions on a night of decision making.

The Department of Classics and Archeology has put together a calendar of events for this academic year, as part of the newly established 1-Unit Learning Community Experience and featuring lectures by their adjunct and affiliated faculty. All lectures are recorded and will be posted each semester. You can find the archived events per semester below. The CLAR lecture series will be held in the Classics and Archeology Village on the third floor of University Hall. Each lecture will be followed by drinks and dinner sponsored by the CLAR Department and the Dean’s Office of the College of Liberal Arts.

Our Annual Faculty Symposium will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2023 from 10 am to 1:30 pm in University Hall (ECC 1857). Our students will present their research, followed by an expert presentation by Dr Heidi Fessler, Professor of Classics and Archaeology. The presentations will be followed by special prizes and a lunch.

Unh 2023 Calendar

Our Annual Classics and Archeology Dionysus Festival will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Marymount Institute (UNH 3002). We will celebrate our graduating seniors, host a Roman Reenactment Parade and much more! Everyone is invited to join in the festivities.

The Greek Consul General in Los Angeles, HE Ioannis Stamatekos, will make a presentation on “The Role of Greece in the Eastern Mediterranean”. A Q&A with LMU students will follow. The event is sponsored by the Institute for Classics and Archaeology, the Global Policy Institute, International Relations, and the BCLA Dean’s Office.

Gymnastics Finishes Up Home Action With 194.350 Against Unh

Join us on Thursday, January 26th from 5:30-6:30PM. For our Classics and Archeology Teaching Community Lecture Series. Dr. Amanda Herring will present “Heroes on the Move: Re-imagining Greek Heroes in the Hellenistic World.” The CLAR lecture series will be held in the Classics and Archeology Village on the third floor of University Hall. Each lecture will be followed by drinks and dinner sponsored by the CLAR Department and the Dean’s Office of the College of Liberal Arts.

Join us in celebrating the retirement of Matt Dillon, Professor Emeritus of Classics and Archaeology. It is a program co-sponsored by Classics and Archeology and Theological Studies.

Join us on Thursday, March 23rd from 5:30-6:30PM. For our Classics and Archeology Teaching Community Lecture Series. Dr. Stavroula Golfomitsou, Head of Collections at the Getty Conservation Institute, will present “Standing Still? Conservation as a Way Forward.” The discussion will take place in the McIntosh Center in University Hall 3999. Each lecture will be followed by drinks and dinner sponsored by the CLAR Department and the Dean’s Office of the College of Liberal Arts.
