Unc Spring 2023 Calendar – It’s the middle of May. Many people think about the end of the school year with studies and summer plans. I, on the other hand, have my sights set on the 2021-22 college basketball season. Although we’re only six months away from the upcoming basketball season, we already know a few things about the plan. With that in mind, let’s look ahead to the challenges already on the docket.
First, we need to know how many games the Tar Heels can play. As a reminder, the NCAA reduced the number of games that can be played in 2020-21 due to COVID-19. For now, let’s assume that next season it will be back to the same game. Not counting postseason games, teams have three different options for regular-season games:

Carolina is in that first division for the 2021-22 season. He’s participating in three MTE games (more to come) and could manage another 28 games for a total of 31.
Western Carolina University
The Tar Heels have two straight games against them already scheduled. They will travel to the College of Charleston for a true road game on Nov. 16. The date is TBA, but Carolina will host Monmouth as another previously scheduled game.
UNC has five more games scheduled as part of the varsity tradition. As always, they will play in the ACC/Big Ten tournament (opponent, date, and location TBA). For the eighth consecutive year, Carolina has participated in the CBS Sports Clasc. This year’s event will be held in Las Vegas (date TBA) and the Tar Heels are expected to face UCLA.
Note: Among the four participants on the year, UNC has the best record in the CBS Sports Class at 5-2. Ohio State is 4-3, Kentucky is 3-4, and UCLA is 2-5.

Carolina will also participate in the MTE – Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament at Mohegan Sun (Uncasville, Connecticut). The other three participating teams are Purdue, Tennessee, and Villanova. The tournament will take place sometime around Thanksgiving, but exact dates have not been announced.
The remainder is already 20 ACC games. A few years ago, the conference released a list of conference opponents for the 2021-22 season. So we already know all 20 conference games the Tar Heels will play (including home vs. away), we just don’t know when the games will be played.
The ACC’s 15 basketball teams each play home and away, including four home-only teams and four home-only teams. Each school has two “rival” schools that play home and away each year. The other four home and abroad schools rotate from year to year.

The Tar Heels’ rival schools are Duke and NC State. The other four schools that Carolina will play home and away this season are Boston College, Georgia Tech, Louisville, and Virginia Tech. The only home games are Florida State, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, and Virginia. The only away games are Clemson, Miami, Notre Dame, and Wake Forest.
Including these games, you get to 24 plus a three-game MTE. This means that Hubert Davis and company have four empty seats left in the non-conference field.
It will be interesting to see which teams the coaches decide to line up with their four open positions. The non-conference schedule has already been uploaded. UCLA is at or near the top in every way—very early in the top 25 (assuming Juzang returns). Villanova is ranked in the top five. Tennessee and Purdue have always been conference rivals. The ACC/Big Ten Challenge opponent will be a tough game (probably at the Smith Center this year, thankfully). It’s playing

The one break the Tar Heels were caught in was in ACC teams that only played on the road. Any of those are winnable games and Carolina would be wise to win two or three of them.
With a non-conference slate that includes two potentially high-profile teams, the 2020-2121 schedule offers some breathing space due to the lack of play due to COVID-19, especially in a head coach transition year. along with several returning starters), expect the four games to be a mix of opposing types. Maybe one of the best road games. Perhaps one of the biggest teams in the conference. At least two central teams are expected to do well in their league. Probably one of the lowest ranked teams in the conference.
That said, UNC, under Roy Williams, has consistently challenged itself in non-conference games, so don’t be surprised to see a strong opponent or two. it should be used as a guide, in conjunction with a technical advisor, in planning a course of study and meeting graduation requirements.
