Gujarat’s Vikram Samvat calendar is about 56 years ahead of the Christian calendar. This means that if it is 2015 in the Christian calendar, then in the Gujarati calendar it will be 2015 + 56 = 2071st year. The Vikrama Samvat lunar calendar was established by the Ujjain Emperor Vikramaditya in 1000 BC. (To calculate the current Christian year, subtract 57 years from the Indian year if the date is between the beginning of the Indian year and the end of the Western year, i.e. Kartak Sud 1 to December 31. If the date is between the beginning of the Western year and the end of the Indian year, that is, from January 1 to Aso wad 30, then only 56 years are to be deducted.
The Gujarati Vikram Samvat calendar uses a solar year, but divides it into 12 lunar months, each consisting of 29 days 12 hours 44 minutes 3 seconds. All together lunar year 354 days 8 hours 48 minutes 36 seconds. To fix the lunar months in a solar year (because 60 solar months = 62 lunar months) there is a practice of adding an extra month called Adhik Mahino or Purushottam maas 30 months or say two and a half years apart. In the Gujarati Hindu Vikram Samvat calendar, seasons are according to the sun, months according to the moon and days according to the sun and moon.

Lunar days or tenths can vary in length. Not only that, but sometimes the tithe is skipped or sometimes two consecutive days share the same tithe. This is because the days in the Gujarat calendar are calculated using the difference in the angle of longitude of the position of the sun and the moon.
The difference between the Gujarati Vikram Samvat calendar year and the North Indian Vikram Samvat calendar year is that while the Gujarati Vikram Samvat calendar year begins on the first day after the new moon in the month of Kartak (one day after Diwali , usually October/November). in the popular calendar). ), in parts of Northern India, the same Vikram Samvat calendar begins after the new moon in the month of Chaitra (usually March/April in the Christian calendar). On the other hand, in Nepal, where Vikram Samvat is the official calendar, the new year begins in mid-April.
